Staff Qualifications


All new employees must meet the criteria listed in the Department of Community Services Organization and Management: Staff Qualifications - Level 1 & 2 - Semi-Independent Living and Group Homes excerpt below:


"All employees (permanent, term, casual, temporary, part-time and relief) hired to work in a Level 1 or 2 residential child-caring facility which is approved, licences or operated by the Department of Community Services pursuant to the Children and Family Services Act and Regulations shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

Completion of a child and youth care worker diploma from a provincially approved post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience.  In addition, must have a comprehensive understanding of the needs of youth in residential care, along with effective report writing skills; verbal communication and counselling skills, the ability to maintain rapport and serve as a role model and demonstrate an approach toward the children/youth which is compatible with the program model of the facility."

*Fire Extinguisher Training

*Food Safety Training

*Cultural Sensitivity
